The temperature may have been bitterly cold outside last Thursday, but that didn’t stop a trio of local bands from keeping things hot inside House of TARG.
Wise, Young & King started the night off. This was only their second show since reforming. I first noticed these guys back in the days of the Big Money Shot. It was great to see them perform again after so many years. I remembered a few songs from their set and they still had that energy on stage that first grabbed my attention several years ago. I love their overall sound and Alan’s gruff scratchy vocals suit the music perfectly. If you haven’t yet heard these guys, you need to check them out!
Up next was Riishi Von Rex. I was first introduced to their music by Eric Eggleston of Johnny Hall Productions who had the pleasure of recording their first EP. At first listen, they may sound like another garage rock duo, but take a deeper listen and you will discover that there are so many layers to their music. It was great to finally see them live. You should too!
Closing out the evening were The Wicked Mercy. I’ve seen these guys a handful of times now. I know when they take the stage you’re going to get a truly enjoyable set of songs each and every time. The music is punctuated by their dirty crunchy guitar sound, layered overtop the rumblings of a solid rhythm section. It didn’t take long for a few dancers to show their appreciation by grooving along with the hard hitting beat.
This was a great local lineup! Do yourself a favor and check out any of these bands the next time they take the stage.
