This past Friday, Those Gulls had their CD release. It was supposed to be at Cafe Dekcuf, but there was a last minute change as Mavericks wasn’t being used for evening. While Dekcuf has a nice intimate feel to it, it was nice to see the band on a larger stage. The guys didn’t disappoint. They played every song off their new release in order, and the tunes sounded great! They finished off the set with some of their older songs. No disrespect to Andrew’s vocals, but one of the highlights for me was their instrumental New Light. It sounded fantastic live. Their performance was high energy and a lot of fun to photograph.
Up first for the evening were a couple members from the Ornaments. Unfortunately I only made it for their last song.
Up next was Zoo Legacy. It was a last minute gig for them and unfortunately bassist Sam Goss wasn’t able to make the show. However Pierce McKennirey (bassist for Those Gulls) filled in and didn’t miss a beat. Keep an eye out for this band. Their tunes were excellent and I expect you’ll be hearing more about them over the coming year. Check out their site for some free downloads.
The final band before Those Gulls hit the stage was The Strain. I first saw them back in February of this year and have seen then a few times since. They bring an infectious set of songs. The band has been steadily improving since that first show. Check them out if you get the chance.
