I recently sat down with Kim Vincent of The Red Rails to discuss Bluesfest, their new album and upcoming tour.
On Sunday July 13th, The Red Rails will make their Ottawa Bluesfest debut, at 3pm in the Barney Danson Theatre.
The band wasn’t originally chosen to play, but are thankful to being added as a late addition. “We’re still fairly new and we’re stoked to play. It’s the ultimate band experience. There’s lots of perks and you’re treated really well. You’re really a part of the festival,” said Kim.
On July 15th, a mere 2 sleeps after their Bluesfest appearance, The Red Rails will release their debut full length, A Living Fiction.
The guys took off to a chalet in Val-Des-Monts where they laid down the drum tracks, in addition to some guitars and bass. They finished up the rest of the recording at home. Kim recorded and mixed the album himself. It took about a month and a half from start to finish.
“The cottage was mostly for the drum sound, with it’s large open room and high ceilings. It was also a chance to get away from it all and really focus on the music for a few days,” explained Kim.
Hot on the trail of the new release, The Red Rails will head out on the road for a tour of eastern Canada that will cover Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
The Red Rails launched a PledgeMusic campaign for their upcoming summer tour. Most of the funds raised will go towards purchasing a new tour van. Unfortunately, the old one was stolen about a year ago after putting a couple thousand dollars of repairs into it. “I took the dogs out for a walk one morning and kinda did a double take. I thought maybe I had parked it on the street, but quickly realized it was gone,” mentioned Kim with a smile. Thankfully, it was empty at the time of the theft.
The guys have teamed up with the House of Targ and Spectrasonic for a homecoming/cd release show on August 30th. Joining the bill that evening are The Bristol Hum. “It’s a new venue and it has a cool vibe. We’re looking forward to it.” Be sure to check out their site to keep up to date on the tour.
