k-os @ The LiVE Lounge

Another one bites the dust. Within a few short months, another Ottawa live music venue has shut its doors for good. The victim this time……The LiVE Lounge.

The small club was run by the local radio station LiVE 88.5. It has been a great supporter of local music, having hosted countless Big Money Shot performances, CD Release parties, and an open mic night. It also had many larger acts grace the stage as part of win your way in shows put on by the station.

I don’t know the reasons behind the closing, but there is speculation that it has to do with the property itself, since Capital Music Hall, which was in the same building, recently closed as well. I hope this isn’t a trend or a sign of things to come. We still have many great venues in this city for live music. I’m sure they will be glad to step up and fill the void.

The following announcement was posted on LiVE 88.5’s Facebook page:

For the past 5 years, LiVE 88.5 has been able to bring some of the best Canadian and International acts to our intimate venue, the LiVE Lounge. Some of the many great bands that have graced our stage on York Street over the years include Our Lady Peace, Daniel Lanois, Metric, Silversun Pickups, Broken Social Scene and Hawksley Workman. The LiVE Lounge was also home to the groundbreaking LiVE 88.5 Big Money Shot, where we helped launch Ottawa’s best local talent to the world, including Juno-nominated band Hollerado.

Although the LiVE Lounge is now closed, we will continue to present amazing bands through our WTF Concert Series and the Big Money Shot in venues across this great city.
