A little about The Pyjama Patrol…

The Pyjama Patrol has a simple goal. We want to give kids the comfort and security they deserve for a good night’s sleep. The truth is, not every child has pyjamas to put on at night. Children in need may sleep in their clothes or nothing at all.

As Moms, we want every child to have a good night’s rest. In 2015, we created the Pyjama Patrol and called our friends at the Kanata Food Cupboard to see how we can help. We found out this amazing place gets their families “adopted” at Christmas so the kids get gifts and Mom and Dad have food on the table. Adding pyjamas was the perfect fit. Pyjamas collected went into Christmas hampers with books, blankets, toothbrushes & toothpaste, food and other necessities. The hampers were distributed to 440 Kanata families needing assistance thanks to the Kanata Food Cupboard’s efforts and this amazing community. Every child received new pyjamas…..792 children to be exact.

Knowing the potential of this collection, we approached Chrysalis House to also be a recipient of pyjamas this year. Chrysalis House is a 25 bed facility for women and children fleeing from domestic violence. A program at the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre, Chrysalis House is a place where a woman can go to protect herself and her dependants from violence and abuse. In this supportive environment, a woman can focus on her personal needs and choices, as well as on her dependants’ needs. Our goal is to have a bag ready for each child that enters the facility filled with warm pyjamas, a bedtime story, toothbrush and toothpaste, a warm blanket to provide comfort during a very scary time in their lives.
