Spotlight on Marvest will introduce you to the talented music makers in Ottawa performing FREE! shows as part of the Marvest offshoot of CityFolk.

Beyond Spain

Friday Sept 15, 2017 – 4:30 PM – BMO at Lansdowne (100 Marché Way)

What was your reaction to the news you’d be a part of Marvest and who was the first person you told?
I was pretty excited to find out I’d be playing Marvest this year. It’s my first festival appearance as a solo artist, plus my band played the past two years and I know how great the shows are! I’m pretty sure the first person I told was my girlfriend.

Please describe your sound.
Atmospheric singer/songwriter with a hint of dark folk.

How did you get started on your musical journey?
I’ve been playing music of all kinds my entire life. I was raised by two classical musicians who had be playing all sorts of instruments pretty young. I got really in to songwriting when I started high school and after spending a summer in Spain I came to the realization that I wanted to study music in university and dedicate my life to it.

What can music fans expect from your show? Will you be playing or releasing any new music?
My show is an intimate and comfortable experience. I play some sad music but I never want to make people sad. I really want people to have a good time, enjoy the music, and laugh along with me. A Beyond Spain show shouldn’t feel like your sitting down and watching a concert, it should feel like you’re just hanging out with me and having a good time.

What artists are you hoping to catch during this year’s Cityfolk and Marvest?
I always look forward to catching Grace Maar, Thrust, and the Chocolate Hot Pockets (shoutout to the LGR crew). I’m also really looking forward to catching Jack Johnson, Tank and the Bangas, and Nathaniel Ratecliffe at the festival.
