Sadly, it’s lights out for another live music venue in Ottawa

Rest in Peace Capital Music Hall

Another live music venue has gone the way of the Dodo bird in Ottawa. This time the victim is Capital Music Hall. It’s a shame. I really liked the venue for live music. It was big and open, there were no obstructed site lines, and it had a large stage.

In the end, its multiple personality disorder may have had a hand in doing it in. It’s hard to promote a venue that on some nights is known as Capital Music Hall, LiVE Lounge Main Stage on others, and finally Parliament Ultra Club to boot. It was one of the larger venues in the market area, so it will be missed. But I don’t think the other venues will mind. Recently, it looks like Ritual has been gaining ground in the shows it has been able to stage.

The main victim in the fallout is LiVE 88.5 and the Big Money Shot competition. The final shows for the year were coming up with the top 6 bands supposed to be playing November 4th, and the Grand Final on November 25th. The station had to scramble to secure a new venue.

In the end, the final 2 shows are being collapsed into one final show on November 18th. The show will now be staged at St Brigid’s Centre. The top 6 will each perform a 20 minute set, with the top 3 bands being announced at the end of the evening. More details will be posted as they become available.
