Chelsea Miller interviews Rykka and Lindsay Ferguson

Lindsay Ferguson was first up for the intimate evening with only her guitar. The last time I saw her perform, she was backed by a full band. However, with her gorgeous voice, humour and clever songwriting, she can easily command a stage on her own. Her set took us through a selection of songs from her last album Monkeys Under Stars along with a bunch more that she plans to record in the new year. It’s always a treat to see Lindsay take the stage!

After Lindsay’s set, LiVE 88.5‘s Chelsea Miller came on stage to interview both Lindsay and Rykka. During this time, we discovered that the 2 performers were longtime friends who had met years ago at a music conference, though their stories on how they met differed quite a bit. baha!

After a short break, Rykka took to the stage with a full band and quickly got things moving with her hits Map Inside and Blackie. Mid set, she slowed the pace down, singing a couple of songs solo as she played guitar. With her dance rock sound, Rykka is delivering an entertaining show, backed by a fantastic band and I hope we don’t have to wait too long to see her in the capital again. Be sure to check out her album Kodiak!

The Shenkman Arts Centre has a good thing going with its music series, especially with the up and coming artists shows. Set in the Richcraft Theatre, the venue is turned into a lounge with small tables and chairs, along with a few couches, as well as a bar at the back. If you haven’t been out to Shenkman yet for one of their shows, you’re missing out! Stay tuned for details on future shows.
