I went to this show with high expectations and I am happy to say that I left more than satisfied.
It’s been sometime since I had seen Rebelle perform. Not since they were using their old name of The Strain. Though the band has been through some lineup changes, their live performance still has that energy to it that I’ve come to expect. David’s vocals are sounding great and it was nice to hear a bunch of songs that I have come to love over the years.
Rebelle is quietly working away on new music. Hopefully we will see a new album before the end of 2016. Spotlight Ottawa will be sure to spread the word when it finally arrives. In the meantime, their next local show is planned for August at the famed Blacksheep Inn.
Up next was Rococode. I was very familiar with their material as I had been listening to their 2 previous releases regularly before attending the show. I knew I was in for a good show when they pulled out Baddest Sun as their second song. Ahead of the show, that song had quickly become one of my favorites, so it was great to hear it live. Another high light for me was Cuttime, another favourite. While I love the music, it was the duo’s vocals that really drew me into their sound and in this respect, they didn’t disappoint live. Hopefully I don’t have to wait too long before they make their return.
All in all it was a fun night! If you were at the show, I’m sure you’d agree.
