RBC Ottawa Bluesfest got off to a great start this year with Sarah McLachlan closing out the evening on the main stage with a wonderful performance. While attendance on the first night was average, the thing that surprised me was the number of people showing up earlier. I don’t recall seeing that many people right at 6pm most of the time. The fact that we’ve little to no live music for the last 2 years may have had people coming out earlier to take it all in.

Ottawa’s local artists were also impressive on the opening night of the festival. I was able to catch great sets from the Angelique Francis Band and Alanna Sterling. DJ Balu also had a good sized crowd and people moving at the Accora Village Spin Stage. It was my first time seeing all of these locals. If you’re into discovering local artists, these 3 are all definitely worth checking out. Follow the links to find out more about each of them in our Bluesfest locals series. Alessia Cara also put on a fine set ahead of Sarah on the main stage. It was my first time seeing her live and she did not disappoint.
