Ottawa’s, My Favourite Tragedy are a three-piece acoustic folk/rock band, headed by Ottawa’s well-known and talented singer/songwriter/recording artist, North Easton. Formed in 2009, My Favourite Tragedy began as a tribute to North’s mother, who was a major inspiration on his musical life. Last year, the band put together a collection of original Christmas songs that were inspired by experiences of family gatherings, childhood memories, and other wonderful stories that reflected the spirit of the season. The album was written as a promise to North’s mother, who loved Christmas with every inch of her heart. They are 8 beautiful acoustic numbers of thoughtfully written songs with gorgeous, catchy melodies that will pull every heartstring with their emotionally stirring content.
On My Favourite Christmas, you’ll find a little bit of everything. There’s the cheery pace of, “Coming Home For Christmas”, about the simple joy of spending Christmas with family, as well as, “Sing Along To Christmas Songs”, an uptempo number depicting everything that is wonderful about the holiday, and how it touches our lives with its memories and melodies.
There’s the thought-provoking, “Thank God Santa’s Still Around”, that reflects on Santa’s uncertainty on whether or not his annual efforts are enough to lift the spirits and open the hearts of humankind.
In “Christmas Lights”, a son shares his childhood memory of putting up the Christmas tree with his father, who has since passed away. A beautifully written piece, this one goes straight to the heart.
I enjoyed the bit of tongue-in-cheek fun in “All I Want For Christmas”, which speaks of Santa’s plea of forgiveness to the missus for neglecting her, by reassuring her, SHE is all he wants for Christmas.
My Favourite Christmas CD, available on iTunes, is original holiday music that makes an ideal gift, and provides the perfect listening pleasure for family gatherings, parties, during dinner, quiet times, while wrapping gifts, enjoying egg nog by the fire…in short, anytime! It’s music that celebrates the warmth, the love, the happiness, and the hope that is…Christmas.
