This past Saturday, I was able to catch illScarlett for the first time. All I can say is WOW, what a fun show! You’ll definitely want to run to grab tickets the next time they’re in town. With a new album due in August, hopefully we won’t have to wait too long!
Bringing to the stage a set that ran through their growing catalog of great music, they even managed to pull out a few surprises by playing a few tunes that will be featured on their next album. It was clear illScarlett was giving the crowd what they wanted. Throughout their performance fans were singing along to their catchy tunes or moshing it out in front of the stage.
Bouncing around the stage, it was clear the guys were enjoying themselves. Though they came out for an encore, their high energy set left me wanting more. When that’s your only complaint on the way out of the venue, you know it was a good time!
Opening up was Trouble & Daughter. Featuring illScarlett’s Will Marr on bass and ex illScarlett member John Doherty on acoustic guitar, I was really impressed with their set. In addition to a great grouping of songs, what most impressed me were the vocals and harmonies. They were impressive and I enjoyed how they switched off between singers Jenni Pleau and James Mascola. I hope they make their way back to Ottawa soon. They are worth checking out!
Also on the bill were Ottawa’s The Sentries. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make their set, but hopefully I’ll catch them live sometime soon.
