CityFolk 2021 kicked off with a lineup of R&B artists taking the stage. Music fans were treated to performances by Charlotte Day Wilson, DVSN and Roy Woods.

It’s been quite some time since we’ve enjoyed a large outdoor music festival here in Ottawa. While the crowd was smaller than I expected, the people coming down to the park were eager to take in the show. Despite bag and vaccine passport checks, the lineups getting into the venue moved along pretty quickly.

Hailing from Brampton, Roy Woods (who is signed to Drake’s OVO Sound label) got the crowd going early on. The sun hadn’t yet set when he took the stage. Fans quickly packed the front of the barricade to take in his performance.

Up next was DVSN, arriving from Toronto and also on the OVO label. While I’m sure there was a set list, he switched things up quite a bit, taking at least 3 fan requests throughout his performance. Having been away from the stage for so long, it was a great way to connect with fans for a memorable show.

Finishing off night 1 was Charlotte Day Wilson, also from Toronto. Charlotte made frequent changes between her keyboard, guitar and saxophone as she performed a number of songs off her first full length album Alpha, which was released in July of this year.
