Q&A

What was your reaction to the news you’d be a part of Bluesfest and who was the first person you told?
I found out I would be part of the Bluesfest line-up in 2020 and I honestly jumped out of my seat with excitement! The first person I told was my boss at the time since I received the email while at the office. Now, hearing the news that Bluesfest 2022 would be happening and in person this year, I jumped around my entire apartment and my partner is the first person I told. It’s been a patient journey to perform at RBC Bluesfest.

Please describe your sound.
I’m an Emcee with a touch of contemporary R&B and pop incorporated into my styling. My music often takes form in empowering anthems and vulnerable pieces that make the perfect contrast to compliment who I am apart from the music.

How did you get started on your musical journey?
I always loved music growing up. The genres that I grew up listening to are completely different from where I find myself now, but music was always an outlet for me.

It wasn’t until I was 17 when I met my friend Spiff, who got me into the genre and culture of Hip-hop. Every time we hung out he would put on hip-hop instrumentals and freestyle over them. I was so captivated by this! So without telling anyone, I would go home and just put on random instrumentals and try to freestyle. I was never and am still not great at freestyling! (Laughs) I used to record them on my smartphone, which I still have somewhere. But that’s what got me into thinking that I could write in rhyme and potentially create songs. I had no knowledge of song structure besides what I would hear. So in the beginning, I would just fill notebooks with rhymes instead of trying to structure out songs.

What can music fans expect from your show? Will you be playing any new music at Bluesfest and/or releasing new music ahead of your performance?
Fans can expect this to be my best performance to date. I’ll be performing with heavy-hitting drums courtesy of my drummer Jaekwon Park, my professional dance crew will be working the stage and consists of Sarah, Fae, Angie and Nathan, and I’ll be incorporating various production elements to bring this to life. You can expect to hear older tracks, newer tracks and some unreleased, exclusive content that you’ll only be able to experience if you come check out the set! I will also be accompanied by fabulous guest performers, Dominique Gorley, J-Morris and Vante Poems. We’re shutting it down on July 13th 2022! Come share a vibe!

What artists are you hoping to catch during this year’s Bluesfest?
As someone who grew up on Alexisonfire and Sum 41, I can’t wait to see them live and share the night with them on July 13th! Also can’t wait to see TLC, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and every single local artist that gets to tear it up!
