ANTIKS are back this summer with the follow up to last year’s excellent debut Here’s the Thing…
I must admit that I was scared to start listening to The Thing Is, having loved their debut so much. That fear quickly disappeared as the sounds of the opening track The Movement started flowing out of my speakers. Half way through the song I was hooked.
The guys are back at it again with their fat beats and catchy rhymes. Other tracks that had me groovin’ from the get go include Man vs Food, Willy No Man and the album’s finale Fooled Ones.
The album features a few guest appearances from other Ottawa artists including Dynamite Motel, G.Grand and beatboxer MC Dimz.
While The Thing Is may not explore much new ground, it stays true to the ANTIKS sound and is a fantastic follow up to their debut. You can hear their influences from the early days of hip hop. They’ve craftily melded those inspirations into an easily recognizable sound to call their own.
